Installed Qualir Navigation, Bluetooth, DVD, IPOD, USB OEM LOOK
I recently purchased the OEM looking QL-SRT301 DVD/NAV unit for my 2011 Sorento. I was hesitant at first but after reading a few posts on this forum about the unit and doing some research online, Qualir seemed like a legitimate company, albeit based in China. I paid $419 for the unit plus about $100 shipping to the USA.
(It came in 3 days!!) I installed the unit a couple nights ago and I couldn’t be happier. It looks OEM……no gaps….and it fits perfectly. I literally unplugged the factory unit and plugged in the new one. No wiring, no cutting, nothing. It was plug and play. The steering wheel controls work, the red lighting on the buttons matches the rest of the controls, even the factory USB port works with this unit.
It does support ipod, but it comes with it’s own cable….it does not work with the kia ipod cable/connection. The ipod interface is not that great and it DOES NOT charge the ipod, which makes it pretty pointless. This was not a showstopper for me because I will just throw my tunes on a usb stick or SD.
It has 2 micro SD card slots. One for media (mp3, video, etc.) and one for the GPS software and maps. If you buy the unit, make sure to tell them you want the SD card with the iGo GPS software and maps for your country. I didn’t specify what “free gift” I wanted (sd card or stereo install tool kit) so they sent me the damn tool kit. After two days of trying to find GPS software that would work the the unit, I ended up calling them back and ordering the SD card/software.
After I purchased it, they sent me a link where I could download it and copy it to my own SD card. After acquiring the correct software, the GPS unit works flawlessly. (I have since found other GPS software that also works with the unit) You can use the navigation while listening to the radio, cd, dvd, or media from the sd card or usb port. It supports bluetooth sync for your cellphone and it also works flawlessly. DVD’s play with no issue, even when in drive. Screen resolution is 800*480, which is perfect for GPS navigation, but not optimal for watching movies or video.
The unit is made in China and it makes communicating with the vendor a little challenging. I communicated mostly via email and chat on their website (car gps – auto dvd – buy car navigation radio from QualiR) and despite the broken English, I was able to communicate everything I needed to, even working through some technical questions. With that in mind, the manual is all but useless. It is not very detailed and it very difficult to read due to the bad English translations. An example: When disc is not in using, put it back stand in disc box. The build quality of the unit seems excellent.
The plastic is rugged and the buttons feel and operate like an OEM unit. Overall, I am very satisfied with the unit. It looks like a factory installed unit. This is my first post, so I am going to try to figure out how to post some pics.
